Paul Alford
was a 5th kyu when he joined the Clacton
club in 1994, having started karate in
1979 and trained under Enoeda Sensei and
Charlie Naylor. Paul obtained his black
belt in 1999.
Coming from a strong KUGB background,
Paul maintained his strong
techniques throughout his grades and has
continued to exhibit the attributes
required of a Dan grade, which he was
awarded in 2000. As well as giving
instruction in the class, Paul regularly
teaches individual students allowing
them to have “one to one” instruction to
help perfect technique. Paul was
certified as an Assistant Instructor in
2003
and was promoted to 2nd Dan in December
2004.
Jackie first came to the club to bring
her son Nigel to learn karate and it was
long before she was persuaded to take
the register and balance the money which
she undertook willingly and well.

Some time later
Jackie other son Graham showed an
interest and Jackie took the opportunity
to take part herself. Like her son’s,
Jackie took to the art like a “natural”
and progressed at a steady rate to Dan
grade. Jackie has been a regular teacher
at the clubs and has helped many
students through their grades and gain
accolades at all levels.
Jackie has proven to be an absolute
asset to the club over the years and
genuinely deserves the personal awards
she has received herself over the years.
Jackie was officially recognized as an
Assistant Instructor in 2003
and recognised as EKGB Instructor
in December 2004.
Nigel
& Graham McDermott have given a
tremendous amount of time and effort to
the club, helping all ages and grades on
a weekly basis.

Nigel graded to
Dan grade in 2002 at the age of 9yrs
making him one of the youngest Dan
grades in the country at that time.
Graham achieved his Black-belt along
side his mum in 2003 which in itself
must be rare occasion. Nigel & Graham
have been part of the Clacton “A” Kata
team for a number of years and have won
team Kata on many occasions.
During 2003 they had a tremendous
winning streak, taking many gold medals,
5 of which were consecutive; they also
became British Open Team Champions. The
brothers were presented with
certificates at Christmas 2003
acknowledging them as junior assistant
instructors.
Debbie Georgeson started her karate
training in 1989 with the SKI and then
later joined the AMA.

Debbie joined the
Clacton Shotokan in 2000 and was a
purple 4th Kyu at the time. Debbie has
been an inspiration to many with her
attention to technique and excellent
displays of kata.
Debbie achieved Shodan in early 2003 and
continues to help and instruct at the
club
and holds a number of teaching
qualifications and is working towards
EKGB Instructor level.
